This week I got to hang out with one of the really great guys in my life. I have known Bob Lenz for nearly 15 years now. We live 2,000 miles away from each other, but he is one of my dearest friends. We have shared some of the biggest things in life together. We have walked through the loss of a parent, we have traveled overseas several times together and had God wreck our hearts, we have celebrated the great joys of God’s hand in our lives and we have shared the aloneness and brokenness that ministry can sometimes bring. There are few men who I can be as honest with as I can be with Bob. I know he loves me and I know he will keep loving me no matter what the future brings.
As much as I love and need the amazing women God has placed in my life, there is something about the Biblical truth of “iron sharpens iron.” I cherish the times I get to share life with men in my life who choose to be honest with me and with the God they serve. I know I need their wisdom, I need their honesty, I need their company, and sometimes I need their chastisement. Mostly I just need to know that I am not alone.
