Arrived Safely in Africa

Compassion sent some of our great bloggers off to Peru this week. I was asked  to help with that trip, but I couldn’t  because I had already planned and committed to be in Africa on another trip.

Tonight I arrived in Burkina Faso (West Africa) and will spend four days here with 12 pastors who are engaged with Compassion.
This is my first time in west Africa and I am eager to get out and see things on this unique journey.

I have been traveling for over 24 hours, my body is tired, my head is swirling and my bed is calling, but I wanted to let you all know I will be sharing my stories and picture. Before I do that, I want to share this fact.

Here in Burkina Faso and how poor it is.  1 out of every 3 kids die before the age of ten in this country.  In the Compassion program, it’s one out of every 2400.  So for $38 dollars a month, I do believe it makes a difference.
I am grateful I am here, more to come this week on another adventure.

  2. Oh my goodness! I can’t believe you are there! My husband grew up in Burkina Faso out in the bush- several hours drive from Ougadougou. His dad and my granddad built their compound, several catchment ponds to teach them about proper water usage and improve their agriculture (my FIL is an agriculturalist) and some wells. The conditions there are still so bad I know. My husband and I hope to go there someday with our girls. He hasn’t been back since he was 18 and i’ve never been though I’ve dreamed of it since I was a little girl. Thankful to see the work of Compassion there!

  3. It still amazes me that what we consider little here, can do so much for these kids! Looking forward to the posts from your trip!
