The hamster proposal

While at dinner the other night at grandma’s house, we were surprised by my daughter, Grace, with her full on proposal and presentation.

I thought the hamster days were over.

It’s been in the works since November.

Her presentation contained 6 months of research.

A display, a song and presentation.

She thought of everything.

Secretly, she has been working to put it all together at grandma’s house, so in a vulnerable moment, she could present this to us and we might say yes.

I want you all to know how much I dislike little critters in my home.

In my life I have had three hamster/gerbil experiences.

#1 Gerbil – I cared for a friend’s gerbil and it kept me up all night spinning on its wheel.  In the morning I discovered it had chewed half its tail off.  When I returned it to my friend, it died.

#2 Hamster – When the girls were young, we got a hamster and it bit people so we got rid of it.

#3 Hamster – So then we got a new hamster that escaped it’s cage and for days and years I wondered where in my home that little critter was.  At night, I feared that the critter would crawl across my bed.  Someday I expect to find a little skeleton in some drawer somewhere in my house.

So now she wants a hamster.

Her timing is interesting.  Yes, in three days we leave for the Dominican Republic.  That does not stop her from dreaming of her future.

As much as I hate critters, we said yes, but she has to wait until we get home.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

  1. Can I simply just say what a comfort to discover a person that truly understands what
they’re discussing online. You certainly understand how to bring an issue to
light and make it important. A lot more people really
need to look at this and understand this side of your story.
I was surprised you are not more popular since
you most certainly have the gift.

  2. She put in so much work. I’m impressed with the whole project. I’m currently a summer school teacher and getting these kids to write a single paragraph at all is like pulling teeth. I’d get her the hamster. What could it hurt?

  3. oh my oh my…hee hee hee. When you guys get the hamster, I will send you room spray! : ) This reminds me of my oatmeal container sized donation box which I decorated to raise funds to re-decorate my bedroom in middle school. I placed it on the kitchen counter for all my family members (Mom, Dad, and 7-year-old brother) to put their spare $50 dollar bills in…

  4. Wooo!!! Go Gracie!! Oh my gosh that takes dedication. Proud of that girl 😉

  5. No joke….as soon as I submitted my comment, Sydney came into the room and said, “Mommy, can we have a pet mosquito? I promise I’ll never open it’s cage.”

  6. I’m so glad my Sydney doesn’t write very well yet! She asks everyday for a different pet or critter of some kind. Currently we have 2 lizards, but they have lost their appeal.

I will NOT be showing this to Sydney. But it would make a good homeschool project!! : )

  7. Way to go Gracie!!! Do I hear MBA or Law Degree???? I love you, Aunt Maggie
